Wine enthusiasts ooze at Central Otago Pinot Noir vintage after vintage due to the wines indulging characteristics. Central Otago Pinot Noir is filled with intense aromas of red and black fruits like raspberries, blackberries and cherries along with supporting floral notes and spices.

Why is Central Otago so popular at producing Pinot Noir?

Nothing beats a Pinot Noir from Central Otago.. but why? The unique climate and soil composition in the Central Otago region provides the perfect conditions for growing it's Pinot Noir grapes. Long sunny days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen slowly which in end, lets the grapes to develop more intense flavours and aromas.

The region has international recognition especially from their Pinot Noir as numerous vineyards have received international awards and accolades of several years which has brought attention to the region. Least we forget the high quality that all vineyards in this region produce, their drops are well known for their deep flavour and intensity.

Central Otago Wineries and Vineyards

Central Otago is filled with well established and highly awarded wineries. A region that is packed with natural beauty, providing ideal growing conditions and wineries that are producing exceptional Pinot Noir year after year. Central Otago wines are full of class, elegance, complexity and world recognition.

There are numerous Central Otago vineyards that are highly recognisable. Situated in the sub region of Central Otago is Bannockburn, Mt Difficulty's winery and is a much loved vineyard producing a high standard of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Also in Bannockburn is Cloudy Bays vineyards who produce a beautiful Pinot Noir named 'Te Wahi'. Two Paddocks have four organic vineyards scattered around the region, Two Paddocks is winery producing highly regarded pinot noir drops that are full of elegance and class.

Moving over to Cromwell which is another sub region of Central Otago you will find several sought after wineries. Wooing Tree and Mishas Vineyard to name a couple.. All these wineries offer a wine and dine experience with great tasting rooms and knowledgeable staff, if you are in the area they are a must on the to do list!

What is the oldest Central Otago Winery?

Established way back in early 1990's Gibbston Valley winery was the very first commercial winery to be established. Located in a sub region of Central Otago, Gibbston Valley sits. A winery that has produced award-winning Pinot Noir alongside well recognised Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
