Chateau Jansenant AOC Bordeaux 2018
The 2021 Vineonline International Wine of the Year
A beautiful blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from a small appellation 35kms north of Bordeaux, Château Jansenant Côtes de Bourg Bordeaux Rogue 2018. It was crafted by Delphine Faure-Maison, a renowned sixth-generation winemaker with Bordeaux in her blood. Delphine grew up watching her father, Alain, at work and officially began her career in 1985. She approaches her calling with both passion and humility - and that shines through in every wine she releases.
Merlot takes centre stage in this beautiful deeply coloured blend with Cabernet Sauvignon. Together they deliver intensely rich characters of cocoa and bramble fruit backed with subtle nuances of licorice. The wine was aged in French oak barrels which have given this quintuple-Gold winner gorgeous complexity, body and mouthfeel. The tannin structure adds length, carrying its sumptuous flavours to a rewarding finish. Enjoy now or cellar for at least another 2-3 years.
While your instinct might be to pair this supple red with lamb or beef, it also makes a wonderful accompaniment to roast pork. To get perfect crackling, first unwrap the meat, pat it dry, and leave it in the fridge uncovered for at least an hour so the rind can dry out. Score the fat (not the meat) and season with plenty of salt. Roast and serve with herb-coated potatoes, seasonal vegetables and rich gravy.
