MULLED WINE IN A MOMENT
Warm up from the inside out with one of VineOnline's favourite mulled wine recipes.
- 750mls delicious red wine
- A couple of strips of lemon zest
- 2 star anise
- A large cinnamon stick
- 3-4 cloves
- 4 tbsp caster sugar
- Optional: 100mls sloe gin (like Gordons)
Put the wine, lemon, spices and sugar in a large saucepan and heat gently. You don’t want this to come to a boil. Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved, then remove from the heat and leave to infuse for about half an hour.
When you’re ready to enjoy it, add the gin if you fancy, and warm it - without boiling - and pour into heatproof glasses or mugs. You can keep any leftover mulled wine in the fridge for 24 hours, but any longer isn’t recommended as the lemon zest may start to ferment.
